Free Serial Number Generator
Mint realistic random serial numbers in seconds for testing, mockups, demos and database seeding. Pick your segments, character set and separator, then generate up to 100 serials at once — everything runs entirely in your browser, nothing ever leaves your device.

Honest limits
- These are random strings for testing and mockups only. They are not valid licenses for any real software and will not activate anything.
- Do not use them to impersonate genuine product keys or to pass off a fake key as a real one.
- Generated serials are random, not guaranteed unique across batches — for large inventories, check against your own database.
How the generator works
Three steps from a blank page to a batch of ready-to-use serial numbers. No sign-up, no software to install, no watermarks.
Choose your format
Set the number of segments, characters per segment, character set, separator and an optional prefix. The format preview updates live so you can see the exact shape of each serial number before you generate it.
Generate the batch
Press Generate and the tool draws each character from the Web Crypto API — the browser's built-in source of cryptographic randomness — so every serial is produced locally on your device, independently at random.
Copy or download
Click any serial to copy it individually, use Copy all for the whole batch, or Download .txt to save a plain-text file — one serial per line, ready to paste into a spreadsheet, test script or database.
When to use random serial numbers
Real serial numbers identify real products and real licenses. Random ones fill the gap whenever you need something that looks like a serial number but must not be one. Here are the five jobs this generator is built for.
QA testing
Test registration forms, activation flows and input validation with hundreds of realistic serials. Generate batches that match your expected format, feed them into automated tests, and confirm your code accepts valid shapes and rejects malformed ones.
See all use casesInventory systems
Prototype an asset-tracking or warehouse system before real products exist. Seed your database with serial-number-style identifiers so barcodes, labels and lookup screens behave realistically during development and stakeholder demos.
See all use casesSoftware demos
Show off a license-management screen or a device dashboard without exposing real customer keys. Placeholder serials make screenshots and live demos look finished while keeping genuine data safely out of the picture.
See all use casesDatabase seeding
Development and staging databases need volume. Generate 100 serials per click, download them as a text file, and bulk-insert them as product identifiers, ticket codes or device records to stress-test queries, pagination and exports.
See all use casesDesign mockups
Wireframes of invoices, warranty cards, packaging labels and admin panels look far more convincing with properly formatted serial numbers than with lorem ipsum. Match the segment style your client actually uses.

Most serial numbers share the same building blocks: groups of characters split by a separator, drawn from a defined character set, sometimes ending in a check digit that catches typos. Our generator covers the common variations.
| Building block | What it does | Options in this tool |
|---|---|---|
| Segments | Split long serials into readable groups, like 4x4 product keys | 1 to 6 segments |
| Characters per segment | Controls the length — and therefore the total pool — of each group | 1 to 12 per segment |
| Character set | The alphabet the serial is drawn from | Uppercase + digits, digits only, hexadecimal, letters only |
| Separator | Makes serials easier to read, type and copy | Hyphen, space, or none |
| Prefix | A fixed label in front, like a batch or product code | Optional, letters and digits |
Real-world serials often go further: manufacturers exclude lookalike characters such as I and O so serials are not misread as 1 and 0, and some formats add a check digit — a final character computed from the rest by an algorithm such as the Luhn formula — so a single typo can be detected automatically. Our serial number formats guide walks through all of these conventions in detail.
